Toranj is on Lindbrook Drive in the middle of Westwood Village, a few minutes from the UCLA campus and a short walk from the theatres and bookshops that give the Village its character. Few neighborhoods in the world hold Persian food to a higher standard, and that is exactly the point: this is a kitchen built for people who know what these dishes are supposed to taste like.
Everything is made from scratch. Beef and chicken are marinated overnight before they meet the grill, herbs for ghormeh sabzi are chopped and slow-cooked rather than shortcut, and the rice is steamed with saffron until the tahdig forms a golden sheet across the bottom of the pot. Kabobs come off the flame the moment they are ready, which is why we cook them to order rather than in advance.
The room works for the way West LA actually eats. Students and faculty come in for lunch between classes, families fill the tables at dinner, and the Persian community that has made Westwood its home for decades comes for the food they grew up on. We are equally used to a quiet table for two and a long table of twenty celebrating something.

We had a fantastic experience at Toranj Persian Restaurant in Manhattan Beach. Our server, Mahdi, was outstanding: very friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. The koobideh was incredibly juicy and flavorful, and the tahdig was absolutely amazing & perfectly crispy and delicious. The location and atmosphere are beautiful, making it a great spot for both a casual meal and a special night out. Highly recommend if you’re craving authentic Persian food in the South Bay!
